PHOTOGRAPHY, POTTERY, AND PAINTING: IMMERSE YOURSELF IN LIVCO’S VIBRANT ARTS SCENE THIS WINTER
LivCo’s artistic side is vast. We’ve got it all. Drama, dance, music, film, small stages, big stages, community theaters, local artists, touring artists — if it’s an art form you’re interested in, you can find it somewhere. If your interests lie more toward the visual arts, though, you’re in particular luck. Murals, galleries and artists’ workshops dot the county in droves.
While there’s something magical about LivCo’s many outdoor murals set against the snowfall, winter is the perfect time to also head indoors and visit the county’s art galleries.
Open year-round, there’s no need to time your visit with a special show in order to see what these unique galleries have on offer. As they put local artists front and center, you’ll be able to see the extensive talent that calls LivCo home — and maybe you’ll even be able to experience art in a new, unexpected way as well.
HERE'S WHERE TO GO TO GET UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH LIVCO’S ART SCENE.
Find the perfect gift for an art-loving friend or family member — or the perfect souvenir to commemorate your trip to LivCo — at Tetamore Photographic. This small gallery in Avon offers a range of local photography, with a mix of framed pieces, canvases, prints and other gifts, for something for every style and budget.
If you’re in LivCo in November or December, stop by The Village Gallery in Caledonia before it closes for the season. The gallery isn’t just a gallery — it’s also an art library, studio and educational space, with classes and lectures offered throughout the year by the owner, an artist and retired professor of painting.
The New Deal Gallery puts a unique slice of history on display. The gallery, which is situated in a former sanatorium, primarily focuses on displaying works from New Deal-commissioned artists, many whom were from the region or other parts of the state. The artwork reflects the styles of the time, as well as the greater zeitgeist of this era of American history.
Specifically searching out pieces from today’s local artists, preferably pieces you can take home with you? Attend the gallery’s December-long Artful Holidays event, a local artisan sale that not only includes visual arts, but also other works and even artisan food products.
Ever wished that you could channel your own artistic spirit and create a piece of gorgeous pottery to adorn your mantle or dining room table? Well, at Studio Sales Pottery in East Avon, you can. Every month, the studio and gallery offers classes to cover the basics, such as decorating, glazing and firing.
Don’t quite want to get your hands messy? Stop in anyway to shop the beautiful handmade pottery, made by all New York artists, and be sure to check out the historic grounds while you’re there. The gallery is located within a one-room schoolhouse originally built in 1853.

Talulah’s Fancy Wildflower Farm Studio & Gallery is like no other gallery you’ve ever visited before. The indoor-outdoor studio and gallery takes its inspiration directly from the surrounding wildflower fields, but don’t worry — there’s definitely something blooming here even in the winter, after the flowers outside go dormant. You’ll find lots of artisan products in the gallery, from jewelry to spa products to pottery. Be sure to check the gallery’s calendar, too, for fun, arts-focused workshops.
Can’t decide if you’re more of a music or an art fan? Neither can we — and that’s why we love Springwater Music Company and Art Gallery. In this fun and lively space, you’ll find musical instruments and art for sale and rent (the instruments, not the art), as well as just a cool place to get to know the local artists, no matter your preferred medium.
