Dansville

Founded in 1795 by Daniel Faulkner, Dansville was one of the first towns in the county and comprised initially of the land that now makes up Dansville as well as several other towns.

Downtown Dansville features several historical buildings, including the works of architect Claude Bragdon and the first location of the American Red Cross. The Clara Barton Museum of the American Red Cross contains Red Cross memorabilia and Civil War-era artifacts. You can explore all of Dansville’s history with a free audio walking tour, available on iOS and Android.

Like other towns in the county, Dansville benefitted from the arrival of the railroad but declined when the rail line was moved to circumvent Dansville Hill.

Today, Dansville is home to the Battle Street Brewery, Angie’s Ice Cream, and several coffee shops. At the Dansville Airport, you can find the Finger Lakes Soaring Club and their junior pilot program, open to teens between 14 - 18. The historic Star Theater is always worth a visit, and keep an eye out for fairies while you’re wandering downtown! The Dansville Artwork Fairy Doors has 22 hidden doorways throughout downtown and more in Pioneer Park.

Boutique shops are a LivCo specialty. Our towns and villages are filled with adorable storefronts that offer one-of-a-kind gifts you can’t find anywhere else.

You don’t have to travel to a large, metropolitan city to see world-class performers. With the thriving theater and performing arts scene, you can experience it in LivCo.
