Stepping into one of LivCo’s country stores is like stepping back in time, back to a day when the store clerk knew your name, when you could buy your favorite candies for just a few cents, and a locally made snack was always in easy reach.
These unique shopping options are a far cry from a tourist-trap souvenir shop, thanks to their lovingly curated selections of items. Some embrace their vintage flair, while others have pushed the idea of a country or general store into the modern era. However, whatever you’re shopping for — artisanal foods, handicrafts, vintage items or some Conesus Lake merch — you’re sure to find it at one of the shopping hotspots on our list.
We've rounded up some of the best country, general, and vintage stores to visit throughout LivCo. Stop by one or two, or plan a trip to see them all over a day; you’re sure to enjoy the small-town hospitality, local flair and ample opportunities for a little retail therapy.
Mount Morris, New York
Foodies will definitely want to make tracks for Wendy’s Pantry & Country Mouse Tea House. Located in Mount Morris, this charming spot is, as the name suggests, both a tea and coffee shop as well as a country store. Stop in for a relaxing formal tea experience, with warm beverages served alongside traditional sweet treats, or just drop by to browse the large selection of confectionaries and other local products on display.
Conesus, New York
This neighborhood store in Conesus is your place to go for a hot slice of pizza, fresh coffee, or some brews from local microbreweries. Serving families and travelers for the last two decades, this country store will save you a trip to the big-box store for any grocery or snack must-haves that you forgot to pack for your camping trip, day on the lake, or cabin getaway.
Livonia, New York
Situated just a few miles from downtown Livonia, The 1812 Store has been lovingly restored by the owners to its former glory with unique touches. Here, you’ll find nostalgic candy favorites piled high in glass jars, artisan wares from the region’s local makers, antiques, and more. Make sure to visit on the weekend for their old-fashioned doughnuts.
Nunda, New York
In Nunda, Gleixner’s Goodies likewise comes to the rescue during a hungry afternoon, with its all-day breakfast sandwiches, soups and other fan-favorite menu items. Already grabbed lunch but craving something sweet? Peruse the penny candy selection. You may just find a childhood favorite or two (or three!).
Livonia, New York
Back in Livonia, this local favorite general store is unmatched for a quick bite to eat from the deli or a few necessities to stock up the kitchen in your vacation rental or RV. On the weekend, the general store stocks fresh-made apple cider doughnuts, alongside other tantalizing breakfast options.
Springwater, New York
A newer edition to the region, at Hillside Gardens you can find fresh vegetables, colorful plants, and homemade gifts perfect for curating a farmhouse vibe. This country store also serves as the home of the Springwater Farmers Market every Thursday from 3pm to 7pm in the summertime.
