School’s out, the days are longer, and it’s the perfect time to bond with family over a game of mini golf, a day on the water, or a picnic in the park. Whatever your family’s speed, LivCo has all the activities you’ll need to keep kids and parents occupied and entertained. Livingston County has so many family-friendly attractions that it can be difficult to know where to start with all the fun. To help you out as you plan your LivCo day trip, weekend getaway, or week-long vacation, here are some of our favorite family-friendly activities.
OWWL Library Tour
Libraries across Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming and Livingston Counties are encouraging community members to visit all 42 libraries in the OWWL Library System. The program is designed to encourage library use, support literacy, and strengthen community bonds.
Participants can pick up a county map to get started at their local OWWL Library.
Each time a patron visits a library, a book sticker is placed over that location on the map. Once a county map is complete, participants earn a prize bundle. Different prize bundles are offered for each county to help incentivize participants to continue past their home county!
Anyone completing all four counties will also receive a gold Limited Edition OWWL Library Card!
Story trail at Vitale Park
Livonia Public Library’s Story Walk consists of 16 separate kiosks placed around Vitale Park. Individual pages from children’s stories are placed under weather-proof panels so visitors can read them as they stroll along the path.
The Story Walk was introduced to the park in June 2022 and is a permanent installation. Library staff rotate titles out every month.
Camp Stella Maris
For almost 100 years, Camp Stella Maris has been a home away from home for campers to try new and exciting things, challenge themselves, and make friends that will last a lifetime. Campers unplug for the week and experience the excitement of an entire summer in just six days. Overnight campers sleep in one of 21 cabins while Day Campers share the facilities during the day. Shaving cream wars, mudslides, and campfires are some CSM classics that campers are sure to love!
Camp Cherith
Camp Cherith offers a variety of camps for boys and girls based on camper ages and interests. Campers make life-long memories while developing lasting friendships with peers and staff. Programs include resident camp, day camp, mini camp, horse camp and more. Tree climbing is Camp Cherith's newest, tallest adventure! Climb safely up to 40 feet in the trees using a rope and pulley system. You can climb to the top, hang out near the bottom, or anything in between! Tree climbing is available to the public on specific dates (reservations required).
Every family loves a movie night, but why not upgrade your movie experience with an old-fashioned trip to the drive-in? At the East Avon Vintage Drive-In, you’ll get your pick from three screens, and double features showing seven nights a week. Grab your favorite movie snacks from the concessions stand and settle in.
Go on a whimsical walk as you follow Fairy Doors of Dansville. This is a fully accessible trail that features tiny folk art depicting fairy-size doors, all along the way. There are more than 30 doors to find in total, within the Dansville business district, plus a few extra lurking in Pioneer Park. Use the free map available at dansvilleartworks.com to hunt down each and every door, then be sure to stop by Dogwood Trading Company or the Dansville Public Library for a surprise, as well as by the human-sized fairy sculpture for photo ops outside 178 Main Street.
The National Warplane Museum restores, preserves, and displays World War II and Korean War aircraft and hosts an Annual Airshow, with a jaw-dropping display of aerobatics. However, you can also take a ride in one of the museum’s vintage aircraft almost any day during the summer. From May to October, just go to the museum’s website and book a ride in the aircraft of your choice, for a vacation memory your kiddos will be talking about for a long, long time!
Backyard Barnyard in Mount Morris is open on the weekends, June through October, and is a steal of a deal for families looking for budget-friendly activities. The kiddos can pet animals and then check out the other fun on the farm, including axe throwing, climbing walls, and — every kid’s favorite — inflatables.
Letchworth State Park is a must-visit for any outdoorsy family. While visiting, everyone will appreciate one of the park’s most unique experiences, the Autism Nature Trail. Designed for a range of abilities, the trail covers a one-mile loop with several educational and experiential stations along the way.
No matter how you end up spending time with the fam in LivCo, end your day in the perfect way: with an ice cream cone, of course! Favorite spots for frozen treats include Kish-a-wa Creamery in Nunda, Zeppo’s Creekside Creamery in Mount Morris, Twister’s Ice Cream in Livonia, and Moonie’s Two Scoops in Leicester.
